Cupping between the shoulder blades: relief for rhomboid tightness
Share
If there is one spot people can never reach on themselves, it is the knot between the shoulder blade and the spine. Hours at a keyboard, a phone held low, driving, hunching over a bench: they all pull the shoulders forward and leave the rhomboids, the flat muscles that hold your shoulder blades back, tight and aching.
This is exactly where an electric cup earns its place. A massage gun bounces off the bone here and needs a partner to reach it. A cup uses suction to lift the tissue, and once it grips it holds itself in place, so you can treat the spot with no hands and no help.
Where to place the cup
Work the gutter between the inner edge of your shoulder blade and your spine, one side at a time. Stay on the muscle either side of the spine, never on the bony bumps of the spine itself. If you reach behind and feel the ropey band next to the shoulder blade, that is your target.
- Cup: the small or big jar
- Level: start at 2 and build toward 5 as the area softens
- Mode: parked, so the suction holds it while you relax
- Time: 3 to 5 minutes per side
To reach it solo, place the cup, let the suction take hold, and lower your arm. If a partner is helping, they can spread a little oil and glide the cup slowly from the inner shoulder blade outward. Any time you glide rather than park, use body oil or lotion so the cup slides instead of dragging the skin. There is more on technique in how to use the accura Pulse.
A two-minute desk reset
Between meetings, park a cup between the shoulder blades on each side at a low level with a little heat, then finish with a slow pass across the upper back. It is the fastest way to undo an afternoon of hunching.
What the marks mean
You may see round marks after working a stubborn area. They are a normal circulation response, not a bruise, and they fade within a few days. Lower levels leave little or nothing, and comfort is always the guide: darker is not the goal.
Ready to work the spot you could never reach? The accura Pulse gives you 12 suction levels and a session that ends itself at 20 minutes. You might also like cupping for lower-back tightness and cupping for tight glutes and hips.
accura is a wellness device for everyday muscle recovery, not a medical device. If you are pregnant or managing a health condition, or your pain is sharp, radiating, or does not ease, check with your doctor first.
