Reading the marks: what fades, and what it means

The marks are the most misunderstood part of cupping. Let’s clear it up.

A circulation response, not a bruise

A bruise comes from impact damaging tissue. Cupping marks come from increased blood flow being drawn toward the surface, a response, not an injury. They’re painless and they fade, usually within a few days.

You control how much

Mark intensity tracks suction level and session length. Lower levels leave little to nothing; higher levels leave clearer, temporary circles. With 12 levels and a 20-minute cap, you decide where on that scale you want to be. There’s no all-or-nothing.

When to ease off

If marks are darker or lasting longer than you’d like, drop a level or two and shorten future sessions. Comfort during and after is always the right guide.
